Deep Hovel

Personal concept submission to the ArtStation challenge - Ancient Civilizations: Lost & Found / Game Environment/Level Art, built and rendered in Toolbag 3.

https://80.lv/articles/stylized-material-production-for-games/ -breakdown/ interview conducted by 80 level, check it out!

- Stylized scene designed for diffuse only, no normals! Though for the beauty shots I played around with spec/gloss on most objects and liked the outcome. The Marmoset Viewer is strictly diffuse with only the water having a spec map, I also gave it lighting closer to what this style might be seen in, and it's a fun contrast to the stills. The ship in particular was built primarily around stacked UV's, which coupled with the proportion of the asset made it an insanely fun challenge and gave me a chance to advance my own stylized process!
Extra points if you found the swing set. It's a very real life goal to own a swing set suspended above a pool. Just imagine the possibilities.

Thanks for viewing!

Zbrush elements for normal baking. Normals are then converted into other maps to overlay above diffuse.

Final product melted down from all of those normal maps, a lot of gradients and a bit of painting. If I had more time in the challenge then I would of used this as a guide to paint over. I'll probably be doing this in my free time now.

Whipped out AutoCAD for the navigational hologram sitting on the bow sprit. CAD rocks for polar arrays, and I love any chance to jump back into it.

Not much to it! When I can get away with it, I like to build modular assets out of a major asset. In this case the arching rock is built of 12 individual pieces, and the central rock was built of 8.

Huge thanks to 3D World for adding Deep Hovel to their 2017 Sep Issue showcase. I'm honored! They make a killer magazine and I totally recommend them.
